Sing, dance, play instruments, enjoy musical stories, and have fun learning with friends! This lively, age-appropriate class is the perfect start for young children. Visuals and adorable puppets help make the music come to life! Children develop memory skills and language, timing, rhythm, pitch matching, and other musical abilities in a nurturing environment with other music friends.
Early Childhood Music Course Information
Families participate together in age-appropriate musical activities as they learn and develop a life-long love for music-making. The course teaches the fundamentals of music using the Orff Schulwerk approach to learning music adapted for young children, and the beginning building blocks necessary to advance into the Music for Little Mozarts Class. This includes:
- Steady Beat & Rhythm Patterns
- Pitch Matching & Melody Singing
- Moving to Music & Dancing
- Musical Concepts & Vocabulary
- Instrument Playing (un-pitched and pitched percussion)
- Musical Storytelling
- Language Development
- Memory and Cognitive Learning
- Pre-Reading Skills
The Royal Conservatory Smart Start Program is also weaved into our early childhood curriculum to ensure children are developing cognitive skills through carefully selected music and activities. Teachers are Smart Start Certified and have extensive early childhood training and teaching experience.

Setting Up Students for Success
Children in the Early Childhood Music Class will be ready to advance to the Music for Little Mozarts Intro Class once they have turned 5 years old and can:
- Draw basic shapes
- Color mostly in the lines
- Say and draw their alphabet letters from A-G
- Count and draw their numbers 0-10
- Be able to listen and follow directions well
- A good sense of steady beat and pitch matching is a plus!
Course Length & Schedule
The Early Childhood Music Class consists of themed sessions offered throughout the year. Each session concludes with a certificate of completion celebration! There are no refunds, credits, or makeups for missed classes. Families may join at any time during the year at the start of a new session.
Parent/Caregiver Participation
Parents and Caregivers, you will join the class as well to provide emotional support, assistance with materials and directions, and to help with music time at home. No prior music background is necessary because you will be learning right along with your child. Most importantly, you will spend quality time together in a nurturing environment with other music friends in our Early Childhood Music class.
Instrument Kit
There are several musical instrument kits available for purchase depending on the age of the child participating in the class. These are high-quality, durable instruments with excellent tone. The variety of instruments and designed for small children makes them easy to play and last a long time. The teacher will adapt class activities in the class so each child can participate appropriately and safely. The instrument kits are required for in-class participation and at-home music time to help with student success in the class. Music CDs with songs from the class are also available for purchase so you can continue the music activities from the class at home!
