The Courage to Explore

Bass · Student Since 2020

Growth does not always look like staying on the same path. Sometimes growth begins with simply being brave enough to try. That is Samantha Miller’s story.

Samantha began studying bass at Little School of Music with her teacher, Armando. Quiet, reserved, and thoughtful by nature, she often kept to herself and moved through her musical journey at her own pace. In lessons, she continued building her skills, developing her understanding of the bass, and finding her own relationship with music. Then came an opportunity to try something new.

A new band was forming at Little School of Music, and Samantha decided to step outside her comfort zone and give it a try. Alongside fellow student Jackson and the other members of Pizza Rat, she joined the group from the very beginning and experienced what it was like to play bass in a band setting.

It was new. It was unfamiliar. And it took courage.

Samantha showed up, participated, listened, played with the group, and did her best. For a quiet student, that kind of step can be a very big one. It is not easy to walk into a new musical situation, join other players, and learn how to communicate through sound in real time. But she did it.

After that first session, Samantha made the decision to continue music in her own individual way, returning to her private studies with Armando and following the path that felt right for her. And that matters too.

At Little School of Music, we believe growth does not have to look the same for every student. Sometimes joining a band is the beginning of a new chapter. Sometimes trying a band helps a student understand what they do and do not want. Both are valuable. Both teach us something.

Samantha’s story reminds us that music education is not about forcing every student into the same mold. It is about giving students opportunities to explore, reflect, and discover who they are becoming.

For Miss Mindy, Samantha’s journey is a beautiful example of quiet courage.

“I was so proud of Samantha for giving the band experience a try. It can be uncomfortable to step into something new, especially when you are naturally more reserved. But those are often the moments where growth begins.

She showed up, played with the group, and gave herself the chance to experience something outside her comfort zone. Whether she continued in band or chose an individual path, the important thing is that she reached out, explored, and learned something about herself along the way.”

As Samantha continues forward, she carries with her the experience of having tried something new, listened to herself, and chosen the path that felt right.

That is a kind of confidence too.

Congratulations, Samantha.

Thank you for reminding us that courage does not always mean staying in the spotlight.

Sometimes courage means trying something new, learning from the experience, and continuing forward in your own way.

May you continue exploring, growing, and trusting yourself in every new chapter ahead. ♥️
