Becoming Ready

Guitar & Pizza Rat Rock Band · Student Since 2017

Every person grows on their own timeline. Some leap into new experiences without hesitation. Others take their time, quietly building confidence until one day… they’re simply ready.

That is Jackson Via’s story.

Jackson first began taking guitar lessons at Little School of Music during his early elementary school years. Week after week, year after year, he faithfully came to lessons, steadily building his skills and deepening his love for music. Along the way, he earned recognition for his accomplishments and continued progressing one step at a time.

He wasn’t in a hurry. He simply kept showing up. Like many students, however, there was one thing that felt just outside his comfort zone. Performing. Joining a band. Making music alongside other musicians.

Over the years, his teachers would occasionally encourage him to consider joining one of Little School of Music’s rock bands. Each time, Jackson would politely decline. He wasn’t opposed to the idea… He just wasn’t ready. And that was perfectly okay.

One of the beautiful things about music education is that growth can’t be rushed. Every student discovers confidence in their own way and in their own time.

Then, this past year, something changed.

When the opportunity came once again to join a band, Jackson smiled and said something that immediately made everyone laugh.

“Yeah… it’s probably about time.”

His teacher, Armando Wood, and Miss Mindy were both surprised, and absolutely thrilled. They had been waiting for this moment. Jackson joined Pizza Rat, and almost immediately it became clear that he had been ready all along.

He embraced rehearsals, supported his bandmates, took ownership of his role, and became exactly the kind of teammate every band hopes to have. The confidence that had quietly grown through years of private lessons finally had a place to shine alongside other musicians.

Sometimes the biggest milestones aren’t musical at all. Sometimes they’re simply saying “yes” to something that once felt impossible.

For Miss Mindy, Jackson’s journey has been a wonderful reminder that every student’s path is unique.

“One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned as a teacher is that every student grows on their own timeline. Jackson reminded all of us of that. Armando encouraged him for years, always believing he would join a band when the time was right.

Then one day, with a smile, Jackson simply said, ‘Yeah… it’s probably about time.’

Watching him step outside his comfort zone and discover how much he enjoyed making music with others was one of my favorite moments this year. Sometimes the biggest milestone isn’t learning a harder piece of music. Sometimes it’s simply believing you’re ready.”

Jackson’s story reminds us that confidence doesn’t always arrive all at once.

Sometimes it grows quietly in the background, lesson after lesson, year after year, until one day it gently says, “I’m ready.”

As Jackson begins his next chapter, he carries with him much more than years of guitar lessons. He carries the confidence that comes from trusting himself, embracing new experiences, and discovering that growth often begins just beyond our comfort zone.

Congratulations, Jackson.

Thank you for reminding us that becoming doesn’t happen on anyone else’s schedule.

May you continue having the courage to say “yes” to new opportunities, because some of life’s greatest adventures begin with four simple words…

“It’s probably about time.” ♥️
