Congratulations to the RCM 2021 Gold Medal Winners to all Little School of Music students who participated in the Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program! 7 students from Little School of Music received an overall 13 RCM Gold Medals for the 2020-2021 Academic Year!
The Launch of RCM Remote Exams
In March of 2020 everything changed. Students and teachers adjusted to a new format, online lessons. For the first time, students also participated in live online RCM exams.
Ahead of the curve as usual, RCM had been developing an online exams format before the pandemic. This was so exams could be more accessible to those who are unable to travel or who live too far from an exam center.
Due to the pandemic, RCM made the decision to move forward with online exams instead of cancelling. This is because they wanted to allow the dedicated students in the program an opportunity to continue to purse their music studies with a goal to aspire to. This was especially important because of all the other closures and cancellations happening at the same time. Students were able to put more into their music and focus on something positive.
Supporting a Musical Community
RCM’s incredible response to the pandemic to not only supported students, but helped teachers learn to adjust to online teaching. Dozens of free webinars were hosted by RCM. These featured presentations by online educational experts and brought the music education community even closer together. On behalf of Little School of Music community, we would like to thank RCM for their response, support, and belief in the music education community during these unprecedented times.
Little School of Music RCM Gold Medal Winners!
First Class Honors with Distinction: 90–100 This standing is awarded for exceptional performances that are confident and communicative, while demonstrating technical command, insightful awareness of style, and convincing musical interpretation.
Among our participating students, 7 received the highest mark (score) for their superior performances in the Western Region, and 5 received the highest mark in the Nation. These exceptional students have been recognized with top honors, Regional Gold Medal and National Gold Medal Awards. As a result, they have also received invitation to perform at the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Music Celebration of Excellence.
