A Quiet Tone with Powerful Reach
Flute · LSM Student Since 2016
When Prabhtej Singh first picked up the flute at Little School of Music, he had a soft smile and a sound that immediately stood out. Even in his earliest lessons, his tone was clear, centered, and expressive beyond his years. His teacher, Jean DeMart, saw something special—and so did everyone else.
“I remember telling Jean, ‘There’s something different about his sound,’” recalls Miss Mindy. “It was one of those moments where you just know.”
Prabhtej originally came to LSM after his brother began violin lessons. But he quickly forged his own path—marked by quiet confidence, discipline, and a deep love for learning. One unforgettable performance came during a Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra ensemble concert hosted at LSM. Prabhtej and his brother performed a duet that was technically challenging, fast-paced, and perfectly synchronized. Their musicianship lit up the room.
“It was the highlight of the entire concert,” says Miss Mindy. “Totally unexpected and completely thrilling.”
But Prabhtej’s path wasn’t always easy. During the pandemic, online lessons created emotional distance, and he started to lose motivation. At a staff meeting, Miss Jean shared what happened next:
“He told me he was thinking about quitting flute. He just didn’t feel excited anymore. So instead of pushing, I pivoted. I gave him some jazz music—something fresh. That lit a spark. After playing one piece, he looked at me and said, ‘Do you have another one like that?’ And we were back.”
That spark carried him to incredible heights. Prabhtej went on to earn Royal Conservatory of Music Regional Gold Medals for Flute Levels 2 through 5, and in 2024, received the RCM National Gold Medal for Level 6 Flute—an honor that led to a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.
He also performed solo multiple times at USC’s Thornton School of Music Newman Recital Hall for the Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate of Excellence (by invitation only), and spent six years in the Santa Clarita Youth Orchestra, ultimately serving as Principal Flautist for the Novae Sinfonia Orchestra. His senior recital includes solo, duet, and chamber performances with his peers—showcasing not just his skill, but his generosity as a musician.
Beyond music, Prabhtej embodies leadership and service. He’s completed over 300 hours of volunteer work at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, and another 100 hours helping teach math and biology at West Ranch High School. He’s also donated over 300 handmade crochet animals to patients, friends, and families as part of his own personal outreach.
“We didn’t push him into anything,” says his mom, Kavita. “We just made sure he had access to things that brought him joy. Music became one of those things that anchored him.”
A top-ranking student with a 4.84 GPA and 17 AP classes under his belt, (yes, that’s right. Seventeen.), Prabhtej will attend Georgia Institute of Technology this fall, where he will major in Biomedical Engineering. His dream is to build a career in the sciences, while always keeping music close to his heart.
“Music helped me stay grounded,” he shared. “Even when things got overwhelming, it was something I could come back to.”
Prabhtej, we are so proud of your strength, your kindness, and your soaring success. Whether you’re on stage or in the lab, we know you’ll keep making the world a more beautiful, thoughtful place.
You will always be part of the Little School of Music family. 🪈♥️
