From Little Mozarts to Lead Vocalist—A Journey of Courage, Creativity, and Voice
Voice · LSM Student Since 2009
When Arun Ghoshal first joined Little School of Music in 2009, he was just a spirited toddler with rhythm in his feet and music in his soul. He began in early childhood classes, promoted into the Music for Little Mozarts course, and eventually started private piano lessons.
But fate had a different path in mind—after breaking his wrist, Arun’s journey took a powerful turn: voice.
When Arun Ghoshal first joined Little School of Music in 2009, he was a spirited toddler with rhythm in his feet and music in his soul. He began in early childhood classes, promoted into the Music for Little Mozarts course, and eventually started private piano lessons. But fate had a different path in mind—after breaking his wrist, Arun’s journey took a powerful turn: voice.
His mom, concerned about what to do, inquired about how to proceed because he couldn’t use one hand for many months. Miss Mindy remembered his beautiful voice from earlier classes and suggested he try singing instead. The moment Arun opened his mouth to sing, it was clear—this was his instrument. And from that day forward, Arun’s voice would carry him through a remarkable journey of growth, artistry, and transformation.
With the support of his loving family and the expert guidance of teacher Justin Haase, Arun developed into a powerful and versatile vocalist—capable of singing everything from rock songs such as “Sweet Child ‘O Mine” and “Dream On” to RCM Level 9 classical repertoire including “Bist di Bei Mir” and “Me voglio fa’ ‘na casa”. He studied clarinet, performed in musical theater, and became the unmistakable frontman of the LSM rock band Flashback, which brought home Gold Awards from the WorldStrides Heritage Festivals and recorded their own debut album.
One of Arun’s biggest breakthroughs came just before a community performance at Pocock Brewing Company’s Barrel Room. During rehearsal, director Frank Browne came rushing into Miss Mindy’s office, filled with excitement:
“He’s got it! You won’t believe it—Arun has all the moves and he’s killing it!!”
That day, Arun found his stage presence. He wasn’t just singing anymore—he was performing. With dynamic movement, command of the room, and the energy of a frontman, Arun stepped fully into his role. That spark carried directly into the WorldStrides Heritage Festival, where he delivered a showstopping solo performance—and was awarded the prestigious Maestro Award.
“It was like something clicked,” says Miss Mindy. “He wasn’t holding back anymore. He owned that stage.”
But Arun’s voice journey wasn’t without challenges. During adolescence, as his voice began to change, he initially resisted the loss of the high tenor notes he loved. But through patience, technique, and guidance, he embraced the transformation—expanding his range and rediscovering new repertoire that fit his maturing voice.
“Arun is a formidable performer with an incredibly analytical mind. He has always come to lessons with curiosity and intrigue. He’s been a pleasure to teach these past 8 years.”
— Justin Haase, Voice Instructor
Beyond the stage, Arun also shines as a communicator and leader. In his school’s marching band, he served as Student Liaison, representing his peers with maturity and clarity—skills he credits in part to his experience as a performer.
Now preparing to attend Chapman University to major in Computer Science and Software Development, Arun envisions a future where he can combine music and technology, composing original songs, producing with friends, and forming new bands. Whether it’s rock, EDM, or classical art song, Arun is always drawn to music that moves people—and challenges convention.
“I just want to make music that’s different—music that makes you feel something new. That’s what drives me.”
Sixteen years of dedication. Countless performances. One unforgettable voice. Arun, we are so proud of you—for your courage, your creativity, and your commitment to growth.
Congratulations, Arun. You’ll always have a home at Little School of Music. 🎤♥️
